School A to Z app for school children

The School A to Z app is a recently released app from the NSW Department of Education. You can down load this app for Android and Apple. The app contiains several different features. There is an extensive English, Mathematics and Technology dictionaries. These dictionaries are suitable for primary and secondary students.

My favourite part of the app is the Spelling Bee. In this section you can select levels of difficulty or insert your own lists. The words are spoken and you are asked to spell the words.

There is also the Maths Monkeys… if your children have trouble with multiplication this is another great way to practice. See what you think!

Collaborative learning

Wallwisher is a fantastic tool for working collaboratively. This tool is a pinboard that many people can post to. Ideas for the classroom include brainstorming, collaborate reading tasks, feedback and many more. I also thought I’d use it for story board planning and sequencing activities with the whole class. What ideas do you have?

Glogster…. something new and interesting

I’ve been checking out this learning tool and have found it to be interesting and useful.  Glogster is an alternative to blogging. It lets you create a poster style presentation to share with students. As a teacher you are also able to create students accounts which are private so there are no issues with students identities being compromised.

Below is an example of a Glogster created by a teacher to show Writing with past tense. You’ll not there there are several types of media included and that you’ll need flash to be able to see it.

Let me know what you think…
