My Presentation for the OZeLive Conference

After a very long weekend on moderating sessions it was finally my turn to present. I had a small audience but they were fantastic! Thank you to them all for coming and participating. My session centred around web tools that can be used to support inquiry learning.
The interactivity of the session I was pleased with. I got participants to add to an polleverywhere.com poll which I turned into a word cloud to add their ideas for different tools.
I was really pleased with my session. I was worried it would go too long but I managed to keep on time. I was really pleased with how my session went and next year I won’t be so nervous!!

OZeLive Edtech Down Under Conference

I had all good intentions of spending lots of time on my blog over the summer and getting together some useful posts but alas it didn’t eventuate… What is more exciting is that I am part of the Australia E-Series group that is working with Steve Hargadon from The Learning Revolution Crew to organise an Australia time zone based edtech conference. This is a fantastic opportunity for Australia to showcase some of our talented educators from all educational sectors… from early childhood to university and adult education.

  • The conference has broken up the topics into strands which include:
  • Educator 3.0* eLearning/ Blended learning/ LMS* Networking
  • Collaborative learning / learning theory / pedagogy
  • Use of technology in the classroom/learning environment
  • PLEs / PLNs/PLCs

So far we have a number of presenters signed up be we are looking for more presenters and participants. Share the flyer below with your networks.

Scoop.it

Scoop.it is my new favourite web tool… yes I know I have a lot of those but I guess that’s why I love teaching and learning, there are always new ideas you come across that make what you do so much easier. Scoop.it is a tool which helps teachers troll the internet for information about particular topics. You can sign up for a free account and you are able to create up to 5 topics. These topics help you gather or curate web based articles, webpages or posts about these particular topics. Scoop.it also allows you to follow other peoples posts.

I have two topics which I am currently curating in relation to teaching.

1. Teaching Tools Today – where I gather and curate tools useful for teaching, these include web 2.0 tools, traditional ideas, graphic organisers and more.

2. What’s New In Education? – Here I gather and curate posts about current trends and pedagogical ideas in education.

How does Scoop.it help me? Well…. it keeps me up to date on what is happening in the world of education. I follow other educators and rescoop their posts that are relevant to me. I am able to find new teaching strategies to help me in the classroom and most importantly I’m connecting with others interested in the same thing… educating the future generations.

I’ve added the links to my blog roll so you can get to the directly.

Do you use scoop.it? Let me know your topics and I’ll have  a look!

Collaborative learning

Wallwisher is a fantastic tool for working collaboratively. This tool is a pinboard that many people can post to. Ideas for the classroom include brainstorming, collaborate reading tasks, feedback and many more. I also thought I’d use it for story board planning and sequencing activities with the whole class. What ideas do you have?
